When Donna first approached us with her idea of a laser engraved "BIOGRAPHY CANE" for her husband Tom, my first impression was "Wow, what a fantastic concept."

Please read Donna's eloquent letter below to better understand what this type of cane is and what it means.

Hi Ivan and Debi

The cane arrived this morning. I tracked it to Kerrville, TX. Wednesday, so I knew it would be here today. I carefully unwrapped it and just stood transfixed staring at it—and cried. There it was, the events of his whole life, engraved for posterity.

When one lives to be almost 83 years old and has lived such a remarkable life as Ketch has enjoyed, a gift like the one you so beautifully engraved for him is a work of art that is lasting, and as he uses it daily, a reminder of his special life and accomplishments for all of us to remember and take pride in. I thank you for this.

I'm sure you realize by now, as the images took form on the cane, what you were making for my husband and for all of us, was a very personal, intimate look into a man's life whom you had never met. I appreciate your dedication to the details I sent you about his life, and trying to represent them with such sensitivity.

Everyone's life is special is some unique way. From my viewpoint, one could not ask for a more lasting and meaningful gift for all time. I will certainly send anyone your way who is interested in a cane. I know Ketch's biocane will be an object of conversation wherever he goes. I don't need to guess at his reaction Christmas morning when he opens it, but I will e-mail you afterwards anyway.

You are good people as they say in Texas. God Bless you and Merry Christmas. I hope 2005 is a wonderful year for us all.

Donna

Thank you again for such a lovely piece of art.

Here is Tom's "Life Story In Wood"

Tom, also known as "Ketch" and Donna were married on "7-16-68" and had a home in "Wyoming".

Tom was a "Proud Member" of the "USMC" and fought in three campaigns:
"Marshall Islands", "Guam" and
"Iwo Jima"
.

Tom spent most of his life in "Texas" where he owned and ran his company "Houston Gamma Ray Company" and was responsible for the x-ray work on the "Alaskan Pipeline". Tom was not only a pilot and flew a twin engined "Beechcraft Bonanza", but he was also a 5th degree black belt in "Judo" and a "32nd Degree Mason". He was also an avid rancher and owned several ranches under the "K-Bar" brand.

with a carved figure.

"Mac" wanted something special to take to his "McDermott" family reunion.

"Mac" is very "Irish" and the boar head is the "McDermott" family crest blazon animal symbol.

This is what we came up with.

Please read Mac's letter below to better understand what this unique cane meant to him.

Ivan, OH MY GOD!!! YOU ARE DEFINITELY A MASTER CRAFTSMAN!! I never ever thought I would call a boar head beautiful, but this is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! I've named her "Gracie" ( after the Infamous Granuaile, She Captain of the Sea). The boar is considered a masculine symbol, but Gracie was every bit the equal of a man in strength and tenacity and came from County Sligo which is partial seat of Clan McDermott, Chief Military Vassals of the O'Connor, High King of Connaught. I searched the net for months before I found your website, and my tenacity has paid off with the finest walking cane on the face of the earth. And you made it happen, I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect. Exclamation points aren't enough to express my joy!!! I thank you from the bottom of my Irish heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Sla'inte to both of you! P.S., you definitely can display the boar head cane on your website, it would be an honor(not to mention your most beautiful masterpiece to date!!).
